Fishing the Deveron

The river Deveron has runs of spring fish in March and April, followed by summer fish and grilse in mid June which build and continue through the summer months. The most productive months for salmon are September and October.

Sea trout normally enter the river in May and the runs peak in late June and July. In excess of 1000 salmon and grilse with an average weight of 9/10lbs are caught annually. Sea trout returns are in the region of 1500 per season. Season: 11th February to 31st October.

With over 40 beats on the river fishing is widely available.

Beats range from association/club fishings to premier beats that are let to regular tenants. Cancellations do occur on these beats, best to check with the relevant estate/owners. In the spring, fish run through the lower beats to the Coniecleugh beat where the cauld holds them when river temperatures are low.

In the summer and autumn some of the best beats are Avochie, Rothiemay, Glennie, Turtory, Marnach Lodge, Forglen, Mountblairy, Dunlugas and Mountcoffer.
